• The roti bakar was a thick slice of specially ordered custom made loaf, buttered and lightly toasted. What made it special was instead of the usual toast with butter and kaya, the roti was served with a type of gravy (cooked with kacang parang/ broad beans) call Kacang Phool, which was derived from the Middle Eastern dish known as Foul Medammas.
